Here at TokyoTreat, we see a lot of snacks. A LOT. With a monthly snack box of 17 new snacks every month, we are experts on Japanese treats. The fun thing about Japanese candy and snacks is that they are constantly coming out with new crazy flavors and seasonal options. Every year we see a range of new flavors to try, and of course we HAVE to try them.
What are the top snacks we’ve seen over the years? We’ll break it down by snack category and take a look at the top Japanese snacks we’ve included in our box over the years!
When life gives you lemons, make lemon potato chips! Lemon isn’t always the first flavor you would think of when you think of potato chips, but let us tell you, these are a game changer! These Chip Star Lemon Chips use real lemon extract that'll give you a sour, savory and tangy experience.
We included this in our August 2018 – Fruity Ninjas box and ever since we’ve been hooked on lemon chips! Who would have thought that a fruit flavored potato chip could be so good?

Pokemon drinks?? YES PLEASE!
Isn’t is so cool how Japan never fails to have the coolest treats with our favorite characters on them? From Dragon Ball, to Detective Conan, One Piece, Naruto, and of course Pokemon! When these Eevee-lution Pokemon sodas were released in the summer of 2018, we absolutely HAD to include them in our September 2018 – Movie Night box!
The awesome thing about these sodas is that they weren’t just a cute packaging, they tasted great too! These particular sodas came is a mouth watering mango flavor. Who doesn’t love a good juicy mango? Right?

We’ve included a lot of Kit Kats in our subscription box over the years and for a good reason! There are so many fun and delicious flavors of Kit Kats in Japan so we want to share those with the world!
Did you know that in Japan there have been over 300 types of Kit Kat flavors??
Yup, you read that right. Japan is crazy for Kit Kats.
Because of this huge selection of flavors it is so hard to decide which one is truly the best. We were so torn on this and after reflecting on some of our favorites, we came to the conclusion that the Chestnut Kit Kats were such a stand out flavor. The white chocolate-covered wafer with the beautiful chestnut flavors were so memorable for us we get emotional just thinking about them!
These bad boys were featured in our November 2018 – It’s Fall Y’all box. And meant for fall they certainly were.
But since it was so hard for us to narrow it down to this top choice, we wanted to mention a few memorable options that were also right up there on the top of our list:

Dagashi are small candies that are known for their variety of flavors and easy to eat sizes! They’re the typical candies Japanese children would buy for a little treat.
Mochi is made from rice that is pounded into a paste and into the desired shape. It is very chewy and comes in many flavors and various Japanese desserts and treats contain mochi! These little cherry mochi pieces are sweet little chewy pieces of heaven! They made an appearance in our May 2019 – Tutti Fruity box!

Melon is one of those flavors that you truly cannot appreciate until you taste the melon treats in Japan! While it isn’t a very popular flavor in the west, in Japan melon is everywhere!
You can find a lot of pretty crazy DIY candy kits in Japan and while this particular DIY kit is simple and easy to make, it has a sweet melon flavor and jelly texture that is uniquely Japanese! We can’t say no to this kind of delicious melon flavor so that’s why we included this as our favorite snack. We included this yummy treat in the September 2019 – Fresh ‘N Tasty box!

Banana fans rejoice! No this is not exactly a cookie, but close enough! These cream filled banana sponge cakes are rolled like a delicious little omelette and are an absolute MUST TRY! They feature a beautifully soft sponge cake, with a sweet banana cream center and a touch of white chocolate to seal the cream in the omelette. The flavor of the banana was a good mix of banana without being too overpowering or medicine like.
The Banana Omelette Cakes made an appearance in the March 2019 – Spring Market box. We’re hoping to have the chance to try these again soon! Sometimes they come in stock on Japan Haul so keep your eyes peeled if you want to give them a try!
