There are plenty of fun things to do in Tokyo for the spring, like visiting Tokyo’s biggest amusement park called Yomiuri Land! From flying past the cherry blossoms on a roller coaster to seeing sakura trees lit up by millions of lights, Yomiuri Land is sure to make for a fun all-day spring adventure in the city!

During the spring, Yomiuri Land has a whole list of things you can do. We scoured their Spring Leisure Guide to bring you some of the best things you can do there for spring 2022!

Hanami at an Amusement Park

The first thing we have for you to do is to go visit the Cherry Tree Lane. It’s a 180m long lane full of sakura trees that you can take a nice stroll through, or relax at one of the rest areas. The spring flowers will canopy across the walkway, making for a fairytale-like experience, especially during peak cherry blossom season! The park has also been in collaboration with Jewellumination since 2019, which turns into the Beautiful Spring Promenade at nighttime!

If you want to take to the sky, why not do some hanami from Yomiuri Land Sky Shuttle? This cable car connects the park entrance to Keio Yomiuri Land Station, and will allow you to see the sakura in full bloom while floating past the trees!

The Attractions

Of course, you didn’t come to one of the best amusement parks in Tokyo not to enjoy the rides!

Yomiuri Land’s main attraction is the Bandit, which you can fly past the cherry blossoms at speeds of up to 110km/h (68mph)! If you’re not too busy screaming (with joy, hopefully), this is the ultimate way to do cherry blossom viewing!

If you’re not into high speed thrills, you can take it easy on the ferris wheel! Yomiuri Land’s ferris wheel stands at 60m (196 ft) which will give you the best view of the park.

From the top, you will be able to see the entirety of the park’s sakura trees. On a clear day, you might be able to see all the way to Shinjuku or Tokyo Tower! If you’re really lucky, you could even see Mt. Fuji!

Inside the park, there is a building called the FOOD Factory, and it’s currently partnered with Japanese noodle maker, Nissin! At the FOOD Factory, you can enjoy the Splash U.F.O. or U.F.O. Bump.

Yomiuri Land wanted to mix food and amusement, and their Nissin collab is sure not to disappoint!

Splash U.F.O. is a water rapids ride where you can experience the flow of Nissin’s Yakisoba U.F.O. noodles in an inflatable craft! You’ll be sure to get soaked during the ride, but don’t worry, there is a full body dryer so you can dry off afterwards!

U.F.O. Bump is a bumper car-type attraction where you can pull on levers that will direct the pods. There can be up to 10 people at a time, so you can look forward to clashing with the other riders!

Jewellumination

Earlier, I hinted at Jewellumination, the world’s first LED illumination inspired by gemstone colors. Yomiuri Land has collaborated with Jewellumination since 2019, and this season they had the lights up from October 2021 until April 2022!

If you enjoyed the Cherry Tree Lane during the day, be sure to stay until nightfall where it becomes one of 10 areas that gets the LED light treatment. During the peak bloom dates, they call it the Beautiful Spring Promenade, with lights spanning across the entire 180m lane! It will definitely give off cherry blossom festival vibes when seeing the sakura all lit up at night!

Get the Most out of Yomiuri Land in Spring

If you’re wanting to get the most out of spring in Tokyo, be sure to go to Yomiuri Land during late March and into early April to go during peak sakura season. The most common sakura (cherry blossom) is the Somei Yoshino, and you can enjoy seeing them all day at Yomiuri Land by doing some flower viewing both day and night.

Newly opened in 2020, this Starbucks has Japan’s first living sign, and has a swim up counter you can enjoy in the summer!

You will also want to check the views at the top of the steps inside the Sky Gate where you will get a great panoramic view of Tokyo! You can also enjoy a Starbucks sakura drink at the first Starbucks Japan location with a Starbucks sign made from living plants!

Getting to Yomiuri Land

If this sounds like the perfect way to spend a spring day, you can adventure over to Yomiuri Land quite easily from Tokyo City Center. If you take the Keio Line from Shinjuku, you arrive at Keio Yomiuri Land Station in 25 minutes! You can also get there from Shibuya and Tokyo Station within 35 and 45 minutes respectively. You can stop by a konbini at the train station on your way too!

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate the spring season, or wanting to try an amusement park closer to the city than Disneyland, then you must try out Yomiuri Land for your next spring adventure! What’s your favorite way to spend a great spring day? Let us know in the comments!
