From their Yori Dori Midori collection comes The Melon of Melon Frappuccino, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. A frozen blended heaven for melon lovers, it’s the perfect refreshment to beat Japan’s extreme heat and humidity!
This limited time drink is available from June 1, 2022, and like any of Japan’s popular seasonal food and drinks, everyone is all over it! When I went to buy my own, the line wasn’t super long, but at least three people in front of me all ordered at least one Melon of Melon Frapp.
The drink is made with both honeydew and cantaloupe melons to get two different fresh fruity flavors. At the bottom of the drink, you’ll find a sauce made with orange and melon pulp. Next comes the milk based Frappuccino that’s blended with honeydew melon.
Of course like all Starbucks Frapps, you’ll get whipped cream. But this time, it’s infused with more melon flavors! To top it all off, you will get a green melon sauce drizzle!
With the refreshing flavors of both the cantaloupe and honeydew, you also get chunks of melon in the drink itself.
Starbucks comes out with plenty of good drinks on limited time offers, like the Sakura 2022 drinks. This year’s summer drink also didn’t disappoint. To be honest, right after I had the Melon of Melon Frapp, I thought about getting another one as I walked from one Starbucks to another.
Maybe it was the fact it was hot out and I wanted something cold to cool me down. It could also be how nice the drink actually tasted.
Cantaloupes and honeydews aren’t strong flavors, and I think the Frapp does a good job of not doing too much of the fruits that don’t have intense flavors. It’s not too sweet, like most Frappuccinos can be, which also made getting a second one possible. I didn’t get two, but I easily could have.
But I think the best part was the melon chunks! It’s like having a fruit smoothie and there’s still nice little bits of the fruit you throw in the blender. The added texture and need to chew between sips also make the drink go down a bit slower, which just increases the time you can enjoy the Frappuccino. Win-win if you ask me!
The Yori Dori Midori collection isn’t just the Melon of Melon Frappuccino! If you’re looking for something more desert-like, then you can bite into two new sweets: the Almond Milk Matcha Mousse and the Matcha White Chocolate Scone!
The Matcha White Chocolate Scone is made with matcha dough, white chocolate chunks, and topped with a white chocolate sauce; the Almond Milk Matcha Mousse is made on a crisp graham cracker crust, with rich matcha mousse and light almond whipped cream.
The Yori Dori Midori collection features ingredients grown from composted Starbucks coffee grounds, as well as new green mugs and tumblers! Would you try the latest seasonal Starbucks Japan drink? Let us know in the comments!
