If you're a fan of Japanese snacks and candy then its more than likely you've seen a few anime in your time. However if you're not an avid anime fan then don't fret, we've come up with a list of TokyoTreat's favourite shojo anime that you should watch, or re-watch if you've already seen them! There's really nothing like curling up under a blanket and watching a bit of shojo with some tasty Japanese treats after a long day!
Ouran High School Host Club – An Anime about a girl named Haruhi who gets a scholarship to a prestigious school for the elite. One day Haruhi stumbles in to the Host Club's room, breaking a ridiculously expensive vase. She is then mistaken for being a boy by the Host club's leader Tamaki and is forced to work at the Host Club to pay off her debt. The anime follows Haruhi and the Host Club boy's journey and is not only funny but also heartwarming! The manga is definitely worth a read too!
Nana – Nana is a story about two very different girls both named Nana, who happen to both board the same train to Tokyo and in a twist of fate end up renting an apartment together. Throughout the anime the two girls help each other through hardships and to grow and is just a very beautiful story!
Fruits Basket – Fruits Basket is about a young girl named Tooru, who loses her mother and ends up without a place to stay. She decides to camp in the woods when she is discovered by some of her male classmates, who invite her to come and stay with them. However they're hiding a dark secret!
Cardcaptor Sakura – Cardcaptor Sakura follows the main character Sakura, as she accidentally releases a set of magical cards which scatter all over the world. Sakura then has to go and recapture the cards before they cause catastrophe in the world whilst also trying to balance her normal life. The series is endearing and a childhood classic for many, it even got its own remake recently! We also blogged about the Cardcaptor Sakura Cafe we visited!
Sailor Moon – Sailor Moon is about a 14 year old girl called Usagi just going through the motions and living her normal life when she discovers she is in fact Sailor Moon and must defend the planet from evil forces along with her other Sailor Scout friends she meets along the way. What makes Sailor Moon so great is that Usagi is super relatable to many, always oversleeping, eating, bad at studying and is a cry baby! But despite all of this she still manages to protect her friends and save the world time and time again! The show also recently got a re-make too, Sailor Moon Crystal where the anime sticks closer to the original manga.
